Background

China has the largest and most advanced textile industry in the world and, as such, wishes to support the development of textile and apparel industry in developing countries, especially those along the Road and Belt Region, including Africa. Africa has a rich textile history but in recent years the significance and growth of its textile industry has been impeded by a number of factors, including technical capability constraints relating to higher education opportunities, academic and practitioner expertise and science and engineering research facilities. In order to promote education and research for the revitalization of the African textile and apparel industry, the leaders of Donghua University, China, and Moi University, Kenya, decided in 2015 to organize an annual Sino-Africa symposium on Textiles and Apparel (SAISTA), alternating between China and Kenya or other African countries. The past events include SAISTA 2015 in Shanghai, China; SAISTA 2016 (the first Sino-Africa Cultural Exchange Forum, SACEF) in Mombasa, Kenya; SAISTA & SACEF 2017 in Shanghai, China; SAISTA & SACEF 2018 in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia; SAISTA & SACEF 2019 in Shanghai, China; SAISTA 2020, SAISTA 2021 and SAISTA 2022 in Kenya and China held online. Eight conference proceedings have been published, which contain hundreds of papers on various most attractive topics in the field.

Starting from 2016, the Sino-Africa Cultural Exchange Forum (SACEF) has been added to SAISTA in order to reinforce Sino-Africa people-to-people exchange and collaborations in social sciences, contributing to the friendly relationships between China and African countries. This year marks two important commemorations, namely the 10th anniversary of the Road and the Belt initiative and the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Kenya. Therefore, as one of the activities for the celebration of these events, the 9th Sino-Africa International Symposium on Textile and Apparel (SAISTA 2023) will provide a platform for textile and apparel professionals from universities, research institutions and industry to promote collaboration among China, Africa, and the countries along the Road and the Belt regions in textile and apparel education and research as well as to explore potential business opportunities and cultural exchanges. SAISTA 2023 will be hosted jointly by Moi University, Kenya and Donghua University, China, from December 13-15, 2023.

Objective of SAISTA

The objective of the 9th Sino-Africa International Symposium on Textile and Apparel (SAISTA 2023) is to provide a platform for textile and apparel professionals from universities, research institutions and industry to promote collaboration between China and Africa in textile and apparel education and research as well as to explore potential business opportunities. SAISTA 2023 will be held in Moi University Coast Campus in Mombasa, Kenya, from December 13-15, 2023.

1. Abstract

• 250 words in English

• All accepted papers on this conference will be published in the proceedings.

2. Full paper

• The manuscript should be presented in the following order: Title, Authors, Affiliations, Abstract, Keywords, Main body, Acknowledgments and References. Presenting Author should be marked with underline.

• The full paper should be in the format of MS-word document in English.

• The full paper of general speeches should be no more than 5 pages.

• The figures in the paper have to be submitted separately with high resolution (>300 dpi)
